Future sounds of Yoga in the beautiful sandstone surroundings of Paddington's Uniting Church - 395 Oxford St
So I know I mostly write about fashion, but I had one of the best experiences of my life last night and I had to share with you..
The last few weeks I’ve been feeling really stressed, consumed by negative energy and just a real lack of excitement. I’ve thought maybe it’s the fact that I need a holiday, a weekend away or just something to look forward to. The reality is I just needed something to snap me out of wherever I was and I think I found exactly what I was looking for.
When my friend mentioned this “Future Sound of Yoga” I must say I was very intrigued. All I could grasp from our first conversation about it where the words yoga, fun and dancing and that was it I had to know more. So when Thursday night came round, and she mentioned she was going I thought why not. I’ve tried Bikram Yoga, Hatha and Iyenga but nothing compares to this.
I arrive to the stunning sandstone church up in Paddington to be greeted with a hug by Angel. It was a real hug the type I really needed after my stressful day. The Church was lined with candles and at the front was DJ Matt playing tunes electronic dance music (e.g. Ambient, Trip Hop, Progressive, Tech House) and atmospheric artist albums (e.g. Bjork, Sigur Ros, Radiohead)… I was in awe by the setting.
The first hour of the class were your traditional yoga and movements accompanied by the sounds of cool Cafe del Mar tracks. Halfway through the class we all stood up. The next thing I hear is the song Silence by Delirium start to crescendo and before you know it we are all dancing, dancing like none was watching. The music got louder, a smoke machine started blowing smoke, glo sticks came out and I felt like I was at a rave. It’s was so much fun! The last time I danced liked that was in Mykonos 3 years ago when I paid 45euros to get into Cavo Paradise. This was better, no high heels, no drunk tourists, I was relaxed with my girlfriends having a good old dance just like the old days.
Today I had a lightness about me, was it that id lost a few kilo’s from the dancing or was it that I’d let go of some stress, either way I think id found some sort of contentment. After all isn’t that what life is all about trying to pursue some sort of happiness?
