The Print Clash… How to Get it right

Aztec print with animal print London Fashion Week

Ok, so it’s a bit of a scary one, but the print clash trend can be a totally genius look if you get it right. This season, it’s all about mixing rather than matching. The tribal trend has proved to be a huge hit, along with animal prints and ditsy florals.

PRINTS WORN WITH PRINTS - "can be a totally genius look if you get it right"

We’ve seen plenty of ladies ditching the usual ‘don’t mix your prints’ law of fashion. This season seems to be all about burning the rule book and getting creative. And we’re liking the results! The print clash is definitely one for the brave. However, you can always stick to the muted tones to start with whilst you’re feeling your way into this bold trend.

Mixing Stripes with Animal Prints in New York

However, if you want to do the print clash without looking like an 80s barmaid, it pays to tread with care when it comes to the print clash. It’s all about subtlety and using one or two key pieces rather than going for the all-over effect. Maybe a pair of mock croc leggings or pants teamed with a leopard-print scarf. Be creative but not over the top.

Sex and The City 2 – A Quick Snap Shot

SEX AND THE CITY 2 - Starts Wednesday

Unless you have been living under a rock you would know SATC 2 is about to land on our shores.

I just want to give you a quick summary on the verdict as posted by different reporters, the trailer and most importantly – the fashion trends to emerge from the show.

Amy Diluna from the New York Daily News says the movie is “as shiny as the top of the Chrysler Building — flashy, pretty and a long way from the reality of the street below”.
Diluna commends the fashion and the stunning Abu Dhabi setting, but says “the resulting drama is, unfortunately, reduced to a mishmash of goofy hijinks”.

The Huffington Post’s says “the movie’s biggest flaw is the lack of sex and the lack of the city”, referring to writer/director Michael Patrick King’s decision to move the action out of New York and into Abu Dhabi… and by the way did you know Abu Dhabi refused a request to film there… the powers that be in conservative Middle Eastern city thought the franchise too racy.

Instead, the producers of the movie shot in Morocco and called it Abu Dhabi in the film.

The Girls are BACK taking on a new frontier - Abu Dhabi, or should we say Morocco?

Once again, Hemphill is full of praise for the movie’s colourful clothing from costume designer Patricia Field.

Some of the main trends to expect after SATC2:

  • Colourful Kaftans
  • Little White Dresses
  • Christian Louboutin pumps
  • Full – Length Jumpsuits
  • Turban-like headscarves
  • Harem pants
  • Bright Block colours
  • Colourful, silk, cover-up shawls
  • Oversized, soft, tailored blazers

Check out the trailer and judge the fashion yourself.

It opens Wednesday and whatever the reviews, still worth watching!

Can’t wait for you to see our Moroccan style prints and floral’s, stunning cotton floaty maxis and the stunning beaded neck details on some of our summer collection.

It’ll be coming through in the next few months.

Did you know? – A Fashion History Lesson (on Shoes)!

Mary-Kate Olsen looks to be doing her impression of Ozzy Osbourne, whilst being spotted out and about in New York

Sorry for not being in touch last week - things have been manic following up from such a FANTASTIC 4 days at ‘Fashion Weekend’ at the

Did you know?

Hard times like during war or economic downturns often leads to major innovations, especially in fashion. There was leather shortages during World War II so it forced shoe designers to find alternative materials for soles, such as cork and wood. As a result – introducing Platforms! Perhaps that’s why we are seeing the clog make such a comeback?!?! Notably After the Chanel s/s 2010 fashion show…

Chanel SS 2010 Fashion Show - was this the day the Clog made its return?

What are your thoughts on Clogs? Do you own a pair or should they stay in the gardens and farms of Holland?

Feel free to comment below, would love to hear your thoughts x

A Rising Star of Fashion Week!

Samantha Harris

My Favourite model of the moment Samantha Harris.

It was about 6 months ago that I came across this gorgeous model on the Chic model management website and I thought WOW! I had a feeling she was going to be a hit and remember saying to a few friends how much I would love to use her for my 2011 Summer shoot. Samantha endured years of rejection in beauty competitions and wore op shop clothes into Vogue Australia covergirl.

She’s already dazzling everyone at  Fashion week with all the local press raving about her and a hectic 18 shows scheduled – You Go Girl!

Is there any up and comming models that you know about that are still under the radar? Comment below and let us know – we would love to hear about them.

Stay Tuned for my other favourite loves this week from fashion week.

Going Wild For Leopard!

This Autumn it’s all about adding hints of animal to your wardrobe. Leopard print and snake skins on anything from handbags to shoes can easily update your look. The great thing about animal prints are they suit everyone!

A red/chocolate toned leopard print looks great on brunettes and red heads whilst the more caramel toned prints look fantastic on blondes.

The other great thing about animal prints are that they are outright sexy. If you want to explore the tribal trend but don’t want the all-over effect, try one piece and team it with a skirt or trousers.  No need to be afraid of investing in a touch of animal as is still coming through extremely strong both locally and on the international front. I also anticipate  it will continue to make its return in a few seasons to come (some way or another).

Check Out Elizabeth one of our Constantina customers wearing our latest animal print shirt – Doesn’t she look gorgeous!

Winter Hair Care and Styling Tips – Part 1

My blog is here to inspire you in ALL things fashion, so each month we are excited to introduce one of the most respected hairdressers in Sydney, Phillip Gallo, giving you hair care and style tips !

Phil is involved with local and international film and TV. He and his team regularly work with media such as Marie Claire, Studio Brides, Shop Til You Drop and Cleo to name but a few. On a regular basis working closely with local fashion houses on varied parades and launches.

Winter Hair Care and Styling Tips – Part 1

C: Why does hair dry out so much in winter?
PG: In winter there is less moisture in the air, so the cold air and wind dry out the hair.

C: What can we do at home to protect/repair our hair?
PG: The opposite to dry is moisture, in winter you need to add moisture to the hair. So leave in moisturizers are helpful, try in-salon weekly moisture treatments, or at home try Potion 9 by Sebastian is amazing leave in, as is Wella sp hydro treatment is a great treatment that can be used weekly.

C: What kind of things can we get done at a salon to protect/repair our hair?
PG:  Moisturizing treatments are more concentrated in salons and we have heat elements which open the cuticle of the hair, which allows the treatment to get right into the core of the hair cuticle. Also Gloss treatments are super intense treatments that give the hair super shine buy creating a coating on the hair there is no peroxide and it lasts 4 to 6 weeks depending on how often you wash your hair. You can add these after hair colouring as well to help seal in the colour for longer and keep hair in optimum condition.

Do you have any other Winter Hair Tips that works well for you? Please feel free to comment below and leave your email so we can update your on future posts and Phil’s second part of Winter Hair Care and styling tips.

To make an appointment or have a free consultation with Phil and his team contact Gallo Hair on 9360 1192.

Trend Alert! Embrace the Printed T- Shirt

Having a spot of bother layering? Unsure of what to team with leggings, jeggings, or cargo pants? The humble t-shirt is the perfect solution if you want to look perfectly cool but not overdone.

The printed t-shirt is a must-have. Keep the basics for work and chilling out at home. If you’re out and about, a fab print is this year’s wardrobe staple. It’s always a bit tricky shifting your wardrobe seamlessly from spring into summer and Autumn to Winter, and this is where the great t-shirt comes in. At the moment, they’re in cool cottons with sleeves that show off the upper arm to full and flattering effect. The fit is loose but in no way baggy, so don’t worry about looking like you’re wearing a tent.

Super versatile, t-shirts are ideal when you’re unsure of what to wear under a strong piece, like a military or leather jacket for instance. There’s nothing worse than a whole outfit of pieces that are perfect independently, but just look totally overpowering when put together. The fashion mags are fit to bursting with worst-dressed celebs, and those who fall foul of the fashionistas are generally the ladies that were guilty of going totally OTT. The t-shirt bridges the gap nicely and can make the difference between awful and awesome.

There’s an abundance of rock-inspired prints doing the rounds at the moment, not to mention 80s-inspired digital and geometric designs. As the tribal trend’s so dominant this season, why not be a bit different and stroll into your festival of choice in a t-shirt that isn’t emblazoned with a band design or logo? Click here to see Constantina’s Sunset Camouflage Printed Tee or MJ/Military inspired Utility T. If you fancy accessorising to dress up the t-shirt a bit, have a look at the tribal bracelets too.

Whats your favourite Tee prints – Rock? Animal? Stripe? or Slogan?  Let us now and comment below x

Sweet Petite – A Style Tip if you have a Petite Figure

From pint-sized popstrel Kylie, to tiny dynamos Sarah Jessica Parker and Cheryl Cole, the world’s best dressed little women know how to work the latest trends to their best advantage. Here are some dos for working every inch to full effect. Size ain’t everything!

Do…

Black is always a winner and there are some great bead-embellished skirts out there at the moment as well.

The military styles that have gained so much attention are ideal for smaller frames as again they’ll give you that all-important sense of proportion similar to that of this Utility Bomber Jacket part of the NEW collection. Ripped t-shirts go incredibly well underneath. Click here to see Constantina’s Ripped Tank.
